The dried flowers are used for fermenting of medicinal wine that is good for diseases of the liver, thypoid fever, blood diseases and urinary diseases and also the flowers are one of the ingredients used in the preparation of many decoctions for the treatment of dysentry.

The stem of this herb is considered to be an emollient and diuretic. It is taken for diseases of the urinary tract. The starchy rhizomes are roasted and eaten.

The bruised fresh bark and leaves are heated in gingelly oil and are applied on acute rheumatism, rheumatoid and gonorrhoeal arthritis. It is also used for lymphangitis, phlebitis, elephantiasis, boils and abscesses with beneficial results.

The bark is a good remedy for itching, swellings, fractures, and snakebite poisoning, The oil extracted from the seed is applied on swellings, rheumatism and other skin diseases.

Field mint is used locally as a stimulant and carminative. An infusion of leaves affords a remedy for rheumatism and indigestion.

A decoction for rheumatism and neuralgia.

The fruits of the plant are used for the preparation of Arishta, Asawa.

A decoction of the bark of this tree is used as a gargle for diseases of the gums and teeth, and is also taken internally for discharges of the mucous membranes of the bladder and urethra.

A popular remedy for snakebite poisoning in Sri Lanka. It is used as a poultice to reduce glandular swellings. The fresh root is regarded as a stimulant diuretic.
