Indian Kino Tree Stem Gammalu Aratu Pterocarpus marsupiun

The bark of this plant is used as an astringent and for toothaches. The water extract of the bark contains an active principle, (-) epi -catechin which increases the CAMP content of the islets which is associated with the increased insulin release, conversion of pro insulin to insulin and cathepsin B activity.

Garlic Garlic Allium sativum

Histopathological studies indicated the retardative effect of garlic on the development of atherosclerosis, hypocholesterolemic and ntiatherosclerotic effect. The volatile oil, d-allyl mercaptocystein and d-methylmercaptocysteine were found to possess hepatoprotective activity. Garlic extracts prevented the formation of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances and fluorescent substances during lipid peroxidation of rat liver microsomes and thus permitted the maintainance of membrane fluidity.

- Girithilla Argyreia populifolia

The milk juice of this plant is applied to gums and a decoction of the leaves is used as a gargle for treating weak and spongy gums. The root is pounded, boiled with coconut milk and applied to swellings caused by dog bite.

- Goraka Garcinia cambogia

The dried rind of the fruit of this tree is astringent and antiseptic and is a useful decoction for washing ulcers and as a gargle for weak and spongy gums.

Indian Pennywort Gotukola Centella asiatica

This herb is said to lower blood pressure and is often referred to as a rejuvenating medicament. It is believed to purify the blood and cure indigestion, nervousness and dysentery. The leaves are dried, powdered and taken with milk to improve memory.

- Gugul Commiphora

The drug referred to as Gugul has a wide range of uses. It is used as an intestinal disinfectant and to treat chronic catarrh of the bowels with diarrhoea, in chronic colitis, tubercular ulceration and cure of malarial fever, filariasis and chronic rheumatism. It is used as an aphrodisiac in sexual debility and impotence.

The leaves and bark of the plant are used as a blood purifier and in the treatment of piles. The plant is used in the preparation of medicinal oils, which are applied to fractures.
