It refers to the taste of the drug. Bodily effect and it's Bhautic composition, has also been referred to. Six types of Rasas are in existence, providing different nourishing strengths.
Present here is the Bhautic elements of 'Jalam' and 'Prithvi'. The predominant taste is 'sweet'. There is a pacifying effect on Vata and Pitta, whereas Kapha gets increased.

'Sour' in taste. 'Agni' and 'Jalam' compose its Bhautic character. Pitta and Kapha tend to increase. Vata however, decreases.

It is ruled by 'Agni' and 'Prithvi'. The nature is 'Saline'. While Pitta and Kapha increases, there is pacification of Vata.

The overruling taste is 'Pungent'. Its Bhautic character is made up of 'Vayu' and 'Agni'. Vata and Pitta is on the rise. Kapha is pacified.

It is 'Bitter' in taste. The predominant Bhautic effect is of 'Vayu' and 'Akasa'. Vata is on the increase. Both Pitta and Kapha decrease.

'Vayu' and 'Prithvi' are its ruling Bhautic elements. The taste is 'Astringent'. Pitta and Kapha are pacified, while Vata is aggravated.
